Campaigner’s Profile: Lithuania

Vilniaus Moterų namai / Vilnius Women’s House

Vilnius Women’s House was established in 1993 and runs a Crisis Centre for victims of gender based violence since 1996. Since 2012, the Association acts as Specialized Help Center (SHC) for Vilnius City, providing victims of domestic violence with specialized complex help and assistance, including legal information, psychological consultations, mediation in institutions, rights advocacy and empowerment of the victim. Association Vilnius Women’s House together with other NGOs was actively engaged in the preparation and passing of the Protection from Violence Law (2011). According to the Law, SHC receives information from the Police and proactively contacts the victim. In this manner, SHC is closely connected with the Police as well as Children’s Rights Protections Agencies – if children are involved. Women seeking help can also contact us on their own; the law enforcement agencies, social and healthcare institutions, in extremely difficult cases, rely on our expertise and high levels of professionalism.
